I am currently a student attending the University of Texas at El Paso. I am studying pre- nursing and I am very interested in it. I have a passion for helping those in need, so that is how I fell into nursing. I am also very interested in science, biology and anatomy to be more specific, nursing contains many science courses for the degree plan. Some specific work that is done in the nursing field is caring and treating for patients who are ill and injured, providing support for their families , assisting doctors, taking vital signs, educating patients, performing tests on patients and analyzing results, and helping with patient follow ups.
In nursing one of the main things is the treatment of patients. This is recognized as one of the issues in nursing, there are many nurses who may not be as caring as others. I believe the more caring you are the more comfortable you make your patient. Some patients do not get treated the way they would like to, they may be abused or treated rudely. I know I haven’t always gotten the caring treatment I expected. I would like to make this issue one of my many priorities when I start nursing.
Nursing is just the start of countless things you can go on to do. There are so many areas you can specialize in when you’re a nurse, such as emergency nursing, pediatric nursing, oncology nursing, and nurse anesthetist. I plan to do nursing for a couple years, then go back to school to study to be a nurse anesthetist. The schooling is only twenty-eight months long, and the responsibility and salary are a great change from just an RN. I am excited to be a nurse and later a nurse anesthetist. I can’t wait to start my career!
